  Basic Sustainability Assessment Tool
Feedback Form
The Basic Sustainability Assessment Tool (BSAT) enables organizations to self-assess their sustainability-related performance. It assesses their progress toward causing no harm to communities, employees, and the environment. It also gives credit for positive impacts on people and the environment.

The generic assessment tool is for any-size organization in any sector, anywhere. It is especially intended for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The challenge is to make it a reasonable but comprehensive self-assessment. That's why your feedback is important to us.
Both the Excel and online versions of the tool are available here.

Comprehensiveness: Scoring on all generic, sustainability-related issues / KPIs, all SDGs, and all non-financial (natural, human, social) capitals.
Useability / look and feel: Attractiveness and legibility of content; terminology; use of checklists; opportunity for Notes.
Guidance: Clarity of explanations and guidance on the Overview and Introduction pages, instructions with each question, pop-up "?" explanations.
Data Preview Sheet: Helpfulness and usefulness of this preview of the quantified / numerical data points that will be requested during the assessment.
Built-in example: Helpfulness of sample data to show how to complete the questionnaire vs. a clean, empty form.
Organization / flow: Use of separate pages for each issue and inclusion of Positive Impact questions with their associated Performance questions on that issue.
Real-time scoring: Immediately showing how answers contribute to the score on each issue, as the questions are answered.
Educational value: Explanation of core ESG / sustainability issues; how unchecked items suggest how to improve performance scores.
Science-based goals: Measuring performance against goals that best-available science says are needed.
Positive Impacts: Adding bonus points for positive impacts through products / services, through pro bono efforts, and through donations to others having positive impacts.
Interpreting results: Guidance on the meaning of the percentage scores and on weighting methodologies; sample charts & dashboard for reporting and presenting results.
Reasonableness: Time and effort required by small- and medium-size organizations to complete the questionnaire vs. the value and usefulness of the results.
